Warrior golfer Benson qualifies for NCS event

Benson earned the right to go by finishing 8th overall in the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference.

“We’re really excited for her,” Del Norte head coach Cris Rice said. “She’s played very well.”

Heading into the final HDN meet of the year at McKinleyville on Tuesday, Benson was in 9th place and knew she would likely need a good performance to jump to 8th and qualify for NCS.

She did just that, finishing the day with a score of 102 and earning 8th overall in the HDN for the season.

The NCS event is set for Monday at the Franklin Canyon Golf Course in Hercules in the Bay Area.

The team also did very well on Tuesday and finished in fourth place.

For Del Norte, Taylor Shanle finished with a score of 112.

Brooke Trujillo shot a 116 as did Baillie Jones. Kaylee Thompson finished Tuesday with a 121 and Amber Preston shot a 123. Hailey Hardy finished with a score of 133.
