Warrior volleyball ready for NCS playoffs

The North Coast Sectional released the Division 3 tournament bracket Sunday and Del Norte was picked as the No. 10 seed in the 16-team bracket.

The Warriors’ (23-10) first round opponent is Novato (17-14). Del Norte will travel south to Novato for the match Wednesday, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

“I think we got a decent draw,” said Del Norte coach Pablo Lorenzi, who said he had expected to be a nine or 10 seed. “It is just a matter of us coming down and playing the way we are capable of playing. Then we will just let the cards fall how they fall.”

Although Lorenzi said he didn’t know much about Novato this year, he expects Del Norte’s opponent to be good competition.

“They play in a pretty tough conference, so they will be ready to go,” Lorenzi said.

As Del Norte has prepared for the playoffs, it has been working on cleaning up some minor mistakes that have plagued the team over the last couple matches.

“We are focusing on people doing their jobs consistently; consistently being where they are supposed to be, having a better court-sense and basically trying to not shoot ourselves in the foot,” Lorenzi said.

“It is getting better, we are committing less unforced errors. We are trying to hone it down even better. We want to commit even less errors ,and we also need to capitalize when the other team makes an error.”

With a win, the Warriors would advance to play the winner of No. 2 Bishop O’Dowd and No. 15 Hercules on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
