ARCATA — The Del Norte High varsity volleyball team continued their incredible Big 5 Conference streak on Tuesday, crushing Arcata 25-6, 25-12, 25-11.

The Warriors have not lost a conference game since 2005 and thoroughly dominated the Tigers on the road, making quick work of their opponent.

Head coach Megan Curtis said that one game went so fast they didn't even make it through all six of their player rotations.

The Warriors are currently 19-8 overall and 7-0 in the Big 5. They have already sealed up the conference title. This is the 19th straight year the team has either had sole possession or the share of the Big 5 crown.

"The girls had the goal of doing that this year (winning the Big 5) and we're looking forward to the North Coast Sections," Curtis said.

The section playoff selections will be announced on Nov. 11, with games starting on the 13th. While Curtis hopes to play at least one game at home, she said it will "depend on who we are matched up against," and if they can get a high seed.

Last year, the Warriors had a first round game at home, winning the match before falling on the road in the second round.

Deja Hartwick had 16 assists, four kills and seven aces for the Warriors on Tuesday. Jessica Morrow had four aces and three digs. Lisa Daniels had seven kills and Ashley Owen had six kills. Jaclyn Hadfield had four blocks for kills. Mary Timoshenko had three aces and Tabitha Hillman had three digs.

In the junior varsity match, the Warriors won 23-25, 25-17, 15-13.

The team finishes the regular season at McKinleyville on Thursday. In their first meeting on Oct. 16 in Crescent City, the Warriors squeaked by the Panthers in five games.

Curtis said she expects her team will be ready for the game on Thursday, and said her squad will be hard at work in practice today preparing for McKinleyville.
