Gustafson wins to remain perfect

Earlier in the year the 4-4 Warriors had defeated Northcoast Prep.
“This is the second contest against NCP this season and it’s disappointing to lose to them this second time,” Warrior head coach Sara Miller said. “They are a strong team. Last match, they were missing their No. 2 player, and this time we felt the full heat of their ladder and it got us.”
The two victories by Del Norte involved matches by senior standout Kathryn Gustafson.
In No. 1 singles, Gustafson remained perfect for the season
by downing Hannah Puttre 6-2, 6-2.
In No. 1 doubles, Gustafson and Sam Bausch won 8-4 after being down in the match.
“Kathryn and Sam struggled at first in their doubles as their
opponents really turned on the heat and made some spectacular shots,”
Miller said. “Fortunately, the girls turned the score around when it was
3-4 and shut them down.”
In No. 2 singles, Bausch lost to Dot McMahon 2-6, 1-6.
In No. 3 doubles, Jordan Babich won her first set 6-3 but lost the final two sets 1-6, 2-6 to Carolyn Mitchell-Rice.
In No. 4 singles, Taylor Cleland fell to Belinda Mitchell-Rice 4-6,
3-6. Alexis Wright, the No. 5 singles player for the Warriors lost to
Xochitl Salazar 1-6, 5-7. In No. six singles Kira Morse lost to Elena
O’Shea 0-6, 0-6.
In No. 6 doubles Del Norte lost 7-8 (4-7) and in No. 3 doubles 1-8.
The Warriors next play Fortuna on Saturday at home beginning at 10 a.m.
