Warriors fall to Tigers in baseball, softball
BB loses 12-2, SB falls 8-3It was a rough day for Del Norte High on Tuesday. The Warriors baseball and softball teams fell to Big 5 Conference rival Arcata on the road. The baseball squad lost 12-2, while the softball team suffered a 8-3 loss to the Tigers. Both teams had three games each canceled due to the wet weather last week. The rust showed on Tuesday. In the baseball game, head coach Pablo Lorenzi said that they were off from the start against the Tigers, as they committed eight errors for the game. “We looked like we never played the game before,” he said. “We didn’t play very well and didn’t play with intensity.” The Warriors fell to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big 5. Del Norte is scheduled to next play at a three-day tournament in Redding starting next Wednesday. Lorenzi said that if the team wants a chance to contend for the Big 5 title it must step it up. “If they want to be contenders they need to bounce back,” Lorenzi said. In the softball game, the first four innings went fairly well, with the Warriors holding onto a 3-2 advantage. “We were hitting the ball and not making many mistakes,” head coach Jackie Heuberger said. Things began to change in the fifth and sixth innings as errors began pilling up as four runs scored in the fifth and two in the sixth. “Errors killed us in those innings,” she said. For the game, the team did well making contact with the ball and had 11 hits for the game. The problem, Heuberger said, was leaving way too many runners on-base. Del Norte dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the Big 5. On Friday, Del Norte will take part in a two-day tournament in Yreka. The Warriors will play three games on Friday and two on Saturday.
