The Del Norte High boys soccer team used a strong second half against South Fork to earn a 5-2 victory at home Wednesday.
The Warriors hit a snag early, falling behind 1-0.
“We were in a rush,” said head coach David Sanyaolu. “I think that they were too eager to get a win.”
Del Norte was able to rebound and retake control of the game.
The Warriors found the equalizer on a penalty kick in the first half by top goal scorer Jesus Herrera to head into halftime tied 1-1.
In the second half, Herrera found Juan Alvarado twice for two quick goals to put the Warriors on top. Del Norte added a third goal by Christian Marquez before South Fork stopped the streak.
Del Norte’s final goal came late on a penalty kick by Geovany Ramirez.
“I thought we played well, especially after conceding the first goal,” Sanyaolu said. “But there were still things that we need to improve on. We will play against a very strong team in Fortuna on Saturday, so there are some things we need to correct. We are too eager to score goals.”
