CRESCENT CITY Even though the Del Norte High School wrestling team was still missing several of their grapplers because of football, seven Warrior wrestlers were able to place at the 25th annual Battle at the Border wrestling tournament Saturday and help the team place sixth overall.
Grant Ivison led the way for the Warriors with a third place finish in the 119-pound weight class.
Ivison pinned Chris Chadwell of Arcata in 4:33 in the consolation finals to take third.
Joey Kravitz and Ben Oliver lost in the consolation finals to each take fourth place for the Warriors.
Kravitz beat Thomas Parker 9-4 in the 145-pound division to reach the third place match where he lost to Willie Bennett of Brookings-Harbor 10-5.
Oliver edged out Caleb Weeks of Eureka in a 5-4 decision in the consolation semifinals and then lost a 13-1 major decision to Evan Peterson of Brookings-Harbor in the 160-pound weight class for a fourth place finish.
Jordan Lacy took fifth place in the 112-pound division with a pin in 2:01 over Kong Vang of Eureka.
Colton Cooper (145 pounds) and Matt Valdez (152) each tied for fifth place in their respective weight classes because either they of their opponent had wrestled the maximum five matches for the tournament.
In the 140-pound weight class, Thomas Trevino was pinned by Konrad Albrecht in 2:16 to take sixth place in the division.
Also winning matches and earning team points for the Warriors was Greg Kirby (125), Jennifer Skinner (135), Daniel Rojas (145) and Daniel Buchanan (215).
Illinois Valley won the tournament with 100 points, followed by Brookings-Harbor (90) and North Medford (84). Del Norte was sixth overall with 42.5 points.
The Warriors next compete at a tournament in McKinleyville on Saturday.
