Warriors softball: first HDN win of season |
The Del Norte softball team notched its first Humboldt-Del Norte League win of the season by defeating Arcata, 4-3, on Tuesday. “That was by far the best game (we’ve played) this season,” Warriors coach Tom Moore said. “Arcata’s tough. This was a very, very good game.” Chandler Davis had three singles for Del Norte, and Camryn Ridgley had a double and two RBIs, helping herself to a victory on the mound. Ayashe Padon’s RBI double in the fifth inning gave the Warriors what would be the go-ahead run. In the sixth inning, Marissa Van Dyke prevented Arcata from tying the game by throwing out a Tiger baserunner at home plate from left field. On Monday, Del Norte won a pair of softball games in Cave Junction, Ore., defeating Illinois Valley, 7-3, and Riddle, 18-1. The wins boosted the Warriors’ record to 9-5 overall (1-4 HDN). Del Norte travels to McKinleyville on Monday at 4 p.m. for a contest rescheduled due to rain.
