The Del Norte High track and field team jumped, threw, ran and leapt its way to second place overall in both the girls and boys categories at the Big 5 League Championships in McKinleyville on Friday.
The top three finishers in each event qualify for the Northcoast Section qualifier, to be held in Crescent City on May 19.
"We had a lot of good efforts today," head coach Scott Lindsay said. "The kids competed well."
He felt Del Norte could have done even better, but were short several team members. On Wednesday, the team was informed that seven members were not eligible to compete due to grades.
Cody Hoffman earned first place in the 200-meter dash and second in both the 100-meter dash and the high jump.
Taylor Duncan earned first place in the pole vault and was third in the 400-meter dash. Michael Worch finished first in the 300 meter hurdles.
The boys team placed second in both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay events. Saxon Schultz placed second in the triple jump and third in the high jump.
Joseph Alexandre had a third place finish in the pole vault. Eneas Caro had a third place finish in the long jump.
In the girls' events, Kelsy Hintz garnered two first place finishes ¬Ė one for the pole vault, and the other in the 100-meter dash.
She placed second in the 200-meter dash.
Bailee McCulloch had a first place finish in the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 400-meter dash and was third in the 100-meter dash. The girls had a first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay.
Rebecca Cink had a first place finish in the discus.
Rachel Cink placed first in the shot put with a personal best mark of 32.9 feet and was second in the 300-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles. Jessica Slayton was third in the high jump.
The Warriors next compete on May 11 at the White Star Track meet in Fortuna.
