Photo courtesy of Mimi Stevens The Del Norte Tennis Association had 24 kids from 7 to 18 years old take part in the third annual Jimbo’s Junior Tennis Tournament on Saturday in Crescent City.
The event, held at the Del Norte High School Tennis Courts, is named after the late Dr. Jim Piotrowski, a former president of the tennis association.
Jane Rumiano, the current tennis president and event coordinator, said that Piotrowski was dedicated to providing tennis opportunities for area youths, as well as adults.
“He just made tennis so much fun,” Rumiano said. “Everyone that
played with him always had a great time and wanted to go back... He did a
great job organizing the tennis-playing community.”
The tournament keeps his spirit of getting the community active in
tennis alive and is a great way to give local youths a chance to
compete against players from out of the area, Rumiano said.
Participants came from Del Norte, Humboldt and Curry counties.
“It was really a lot of fun,” Rumiano said. “The crowd really enjoyed
it and it didn’t hurt that it was a beautiful day.”
