 Five teams competed for top prizes for chicken, tri-tip and baby-back ribs in this year’s BBQ Wars Battle at the Beach. Hosted by Palmer Westbrook Ranch, first-place winners received $150 in cash, a trophy and a cooler with Oat Hill Organic Beef. Second-place winners received $50 and a trophy. There was also People’s Choice categories, with the judges being chosen via raffle. The winners split the proceeds of the raffle.

No fireworks in nat. forests

As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, Six Rivers National Forest Supervisor Merv George Jr. reminds all forest visitors that the use of all fireworks, including California’s “Safe and Sane” fireworks, and other pyrotechnic devices is prohibited on all national forests and national grasslands, regardless of weather conditions or holidays. Regulations are strictly enforced to protect resources, George said.
The fire danger is expected to remain high with above-normal temperatures forecast for the holiday weekend and into next week.
