The saplings Dan Burgess brought to the banks of Mill Creek weren’t more than two feet tall, but he and 55 elementary school students knew they would eventually help the salmon and steelhead that return to the watershed to spawn.

“We want this tree to grow big enough so when it falls over it can fall over into the creek,” Burgess told a group of third, fourth and fifth-graders from Bess Maxwell Elementary School on Tuesday. “What happens when big trees fall into the creek?”

Antique show looking for participants in Calfornia

Creators of the antique archeology show, American Pickers, are searching for interesting people with lots of interesting items. They will be in California in March.

American Pickers, which airs on the History Channel, follows Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz and explores the world of antique “picking.” Hitting back roads from coast to coast, Wolfe and Fritz comb junkyards, basements, garages and barns for unique items.

According to the show’s creators, some of the items Wolfe and Fritz are hoping to buy include tin, wind-up and cast iron toys, pre-50s vending machines, pinball and slot machines, old movie posters, vintage movie memorabilia, vintage advertising items, taxidermy, pre-60s vintage diner collectibles, pre-60’s TV merchandise, mobster memorabilia, Civil War antiques and more.

Wolfe and Fritz only pick from private collections, so no stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses or anything open to the public.

Folks hoping to be considered for American Pickers should e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or leave a message at 1-855-653-7878. Messages should include a name, contact number and description of your items.
