Jefferson would lead to crimes against nature

The Jeffersonian secessionists won’t tell anyone what their specific strategy is to manage a new state (and I could find nothing on their website that resembles a platform). But it isn’t hard to figure out what they’re planning.

Coastal Voices: There’s no sugar-coating in-patient bed reduction

“Grandma, what big teeth you have!” Why does that childhood  story come to my mind as I read Linda Horn’s latest attempt (“Same services offered under Critical Care,” Coastal Voices, April 3) to assuage community trepidations over Sutter Health Corporation’s decisions to convert Sutter Coast Hospital  to Critical Access and the possibility of moving its governing board hundreds of miles away from the community?

Maybe it was the wolf’s cloaking of his evil intentions as well as his ravenous appetite that sparked the comparison. It may also have been the vulnerability of Little Red Riding Hood as she began to realize that appearances can be deceiving, which is seemingly what emerges within our community with each sugar-coated apologetic  presented to the community by Ms. Horn.

Clarifications about Sutter Coast issues

Some points of clarification:

The “resolution” passed by the Del Norte Health Care District on Feb. 25, 2014, contained no language opposing either Critical Access or regionalization.

Trigg can return trust, respect to DA's Office

Dale P. Trigg is a candidate for Del Norte County district attorney. Right now he is my attorney. He has researched every legal and personal aspect pertaining to my needs and his advice has been most valuable.

Send a message to Obama, Dems in Nov.

Let’s be clear as we approach the November elections. Not a single Republican voted in favor of Obamacare in 2010. The Democrats had control over the House and the Senate the first two years of the Obama administration but it still took them two years to pass Obamacare in December 2010.

Watch groups, not sheriff, responsible for crime drop

I’m Mike Marler founder of the Bertsch Tract Neighborhood Watch.

I noticed Sheriff Dean Wilson’s ad taking credit for the crime rate going down since he has been in office. I just want to point out that several Neighborhood Watch groups started up since he has been in office, and I would like to give them the credit for the crime rate dropping, not Dean Wilson.

Questions about Sutter's finances still unanswered

Recently I had a procedure done at the short stay section of Sutter Coast Hospital, and it was a wonderful experience. Then I attended a meeting at the Flynn Center where nearly 90 people were there to discuss the hospital, but no answers were given to the questions asked.

There have been recent articles in the Triplicate, but again, questions about Sutter Health’s real financial status and other questions have not been answered. How about a short history of our hospital? Who owns it? What has changed? Didn’t we have a local person donate the property on which it was built? Wasn’t that a wonderful thing?

Trigg has shown he can be a good DA

I have had the opportunity to work in law enforcement in Del Norte County for coming up on 14 years. In that time I have seen a lot going on in our courtrooms and behind the scenes of the justice system.

Let's accentuate the positive of our town

I’m a newcomer to Crescent City of only 12 years, and I must wholeheartedly agree with fellow transplant Lihi Halperin (“Look to future, not a catastrophic past,” Coastal Voices, March 29) that to rename Front Street “Tsunami Way” was the dumbest idea I have heard of in many years.

Reason to raise sewer rates doesn’t add up

I can’t believe that our local officials are looking at raising our sewer rates again (“City eyes sewer rate hike,” March 20). The water rates were just raised and our household of three is paying between $85 and $90 per month to receive these services.
