Obituary: Charles “Chuck” S. Hupp (May 28, 1931 – April 12, 2016)

Longtime Del Norte County resident Charles (Chuck) S. Hupp passed peacefully in his sleep April 12, 2016 at the age of 84 in Sacramento.

Obituary: Enrique Alcala Herrera (April 10, 1934 – April 24, 2016)

Enrique Alcala Herrera, 83 passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016 in Sacramento in his home with his loving daughters Leticia Alcala and Keda Alcala-Obledo at his side.  He was born on April 10, 1934 in Yurecuaro Michoacan, Mexico. One of 11 children.

Charles “Chuck” S. Hupp, 84, of Del Norte County died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in Sacramento. Hupp was born May 28, 1931 in San Francisco. Obituary: Lavertta June Waggle (January 7, 1962 – April 23, 2016)

Lavertta June Waggle was born in Crescent City to James Thomas Waggle and Betty Rose Stewart on Jan. 7, 1962. She passed away on April 23, 2016.

Lavertta Waggle was known worldwide for her beautiful redwood carvings She did artwork, beading, crotchet bags and hats. Lavertta expressed herself with art. She was Native American from the Yurok Tribe who enjoyed going to cultural events. Lavertta loved to spend time with family and friends and was always cracking jokes and making people laugh. She loved listening to music and drawing. People were always complimenting her artistic abilities. Lavertta was proud of her accomplishments and sobriety of three years. She was well liked by many and a friend to all. Lavertta had a kind heart and tried to help others who were less fortunate then herself even though she had little herself. She was a strong Native woman who believed in her Native rights. Lavertta was excellent mother, sister and friend who loved her kids and grandchildren very much. She was a beautiful person on the inside and out. Her smile and wit will surely be missed and never forgotten.

Obituary: Lillian Margeret Humphrey (August 15, 1927 – April 24, 2016)

Lillian Margaret Humphrey, 88 passed away on April 24, 2016 in San Jose. She was born Aug. 15, 1927 in New York City, New York. Lillian was a previous resident of Del Norte County for many years but had been living in San Jose for three years.

Lillian was a very active past member of the Crescent City Women’s Club, Del Norte Senior Center and volunteered at the Del Norte County Historical Society Museum. While living in Crescent City, Lillian was always on the go, she enjoyed attending the DNACA, Curry and Del Norte Concerts, taking dance classes, LHR plays, working on puzzles, reading and attending art and crafts festivals.

Lillian will be remembered for her kindness, willingness to help others, generosity, that twinkle in her eye and wonderful smile. Lillian will be greatly missed by her many friends in Del Norte County. Living in San Jose, Lillian enjoyed many outings with her family, new friends and all the activities at the Brookdale Senior Community.

Enrique Alcala Herrera, 83, of Sacramento, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 in Sacramento. He was born April 10, 1933 in Michoacan, Mexico.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., Thursday, April 28. Committal to take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel. Obituary: Felix Joseph Revetta (Phil) (May 14, 1947 – March 2, 2016)

Felix was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 14, 1947 to Rose and Clement Revetta. His parents moved to Pittsburg, California when he was 18 months old. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1965 and joined the Navy. He served on the USS Canberra during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Navy he completed his education in Radiology. He worked at Los Medanos Hospital in Pittsburg, Childrens Hospital in Oakland, Sutter Delta Hospital in Antioch. and Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City as director of Diagnostic Imaging.

Phil had a great love for family, friends and food. He loved to cook and entertain. His home was always filled with love and laughter, and his home became known as Hotel Philafornia, a bed and breakfast refuge for friends and family. Vacancies were scarce. Tradition was a very important part of his life. He didn’t know the meaning of the word stranger. If you knew Phil and were called a friend you became a very important part of his life. He had a knack for making you feel you were the most important person in his life. He made a big impact on the lives of many of his friends and family. He was son, brother, nephew, cousin, Dad, friend, lover, boss, teacher and mentor. He was an avid Raider fan and he encouraged most of the family to claim the Raiders as the family’s team. He had many talents and interests, he was accomplished in woodworking, stained glass, restoring Hupmobiles, cooking, tile work, and trips with his friends Tim and Julie Bouslog to America’s great baseball parks. He also became an ordained minister and officiated at the weddings of two family members, Joe and Angie Trezza, and Gia and Scott MacFarlane.

Obituary: Wallace Hoffman Griffin (September 27, 1924 – February 21, 2016)

Wallace “Wally” Hoffman Griffin, 91, passed away Feb. 21, 2016 in Crescent City. He was born Sept. 27, 1924 in Weiser, Idaho.

Preceeding him in death was Wallace’s wife of 35 years, Lillian Griffin.

Wallace is survived by daughter Constance Cole (Dennis), granddaughter Michele Stewart (Gary), granddaughter Carrie Whitlow (Terry), great granddaughter Carrisa Byrne and great grandson Chance Whitlow.

Obituary: Elizabeth Jane Finley (June 2, 1919 – April 15, 2016)

Elizabeth Jane Finley passed away at her home in Hiouchi on April 15, 2016 after a long and loving life. Betty was born June 2, 1919 in Sacramento to Ben and Anneva Reardon. She grew up in the Sacramento area with her sister Dorothy, and later, step-brother Jim Hodges.

She married Francis Edward Finley in 1943 while Ed was serving in the U.S. Navy. The couple moved to Del Norte County in 1945, where they settled and started a family. Their three sons made Betty a busy mother as they grew. Betty especially enjoyed tending flower gardens, stitching beautiful needlework and supporting her spouse and children in all their endeavors, ranging from local businesses her husband operated to sporting events in which her boys participated.

Obituary: Rodger Allen Fugate (September 28, 1962 – April 17, 2016)

Rodger Allen Fugate, 53 went suddenly to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on April 17, 2016 in Redding. He will be forever missed by Tami, his wife of 30 years, of Redding. His Parents, Roger and Diana Fugate, Crescent City, and parent-in-laws; Harry and Fern Quinlivan, Redding.

Two sisters, two sister-in-laws, a brother and spouses; Tamara Banchero-Bessette, Dallas, Texas, Deborah Gonzalez-Ginnis, Michael, Imperial, California, Dale Fugate, Melodee, Gasquet. Sherry Schumacher, Rod, Loveland, Colorado, Michelle Quinlivan, Redding, along with numerous other nieces, nephews and loving family members.

In keeping with the way Rodger led his life, Tami has requested a private family ceremony, which will be held at Grace Fellowship Foursquare where Rodger and Tami attend.
