Chad Bell was the only Del Norte boy competing in the West Valley Invitational. He took first in the triple jump, second in both the 200-meter dash and long jump, and third in the high jump.
 Costello PRs; Bell finishes first 

The Del Norte track and field team was sparse at the West Valley Invitational at Harrison Stadium in Oroville on Friday — just one boy and one girl qualified for the meet. But seniors Chad Bell and Kayla Costello both  turned in strong performances at the prestigious meet that included athletes from 43 schools in California and Nevada.


DN JV baseball on TV this week

The Del Norte JV baseball team is back on “Warrior Sports with Donnie Mattz” this week. Starting Wednesday, the Warriors’ match against St. Bernard’s will be shown nightly on Charter Cable channel 4 starting at 7:30 p.m.


Middle School Track: Run, jump and throw

 Middle school track and field teams from around Humboldt and Del Norte competed Friday in Del Norte. It is the only home meet of the season for Redwood, Smith River and Crescent Elk athletes. There are still two meets left in the middle school track season.

The much anticipated salmon ocean season has kicked off, but there was little to show for it on the first day as most sport fishermen returned to the docks empty-handed.

Del Norte brings home 3 ‘Outstanding Wrestler’ titles along with REWA team championship
  

Del Norte’s youth wrestlers capped off a perfect season this weekend at the Redwood Empire Wrestling Association Championships in Eureka, bringing home the team championship for the third straight year.

“It was a very successful weekend,” head coach Clinton Schaad said Monday. “We were able to win every team title this year.” 

With three athletes, 8-year-old Colton Schaad (bantam), 10-year-old Eddie Hartwick (intermediate) and high school wrestler Colson Turner (junior division) named the Outstanding Wrestler for their respective divisions and a pile of indiviual champions to boot, Schaad had plenty to be pumped up about.

Lady Warriors beat 5 teams to claim ‘Battle for the North State’ title
 

The seventh-grade Lady Warriors AAU basketball team emerged triumphant once again this weekend during their first trip to the Battle for the North State AAU tournament in Redding.

After defeating Nor Cal Venom 48-40 Saturday morning, the Crescent City girls cruised to a second win over Shasta Magic, 43-23, that afternoon. With three games on Sunday, the Lady Warriors had their work cut out for them, and coach Preston Rafalowski says he and co-coach Justin Clifton couldn’t be prouder of their young players.
