Whale of a lesson

Professor Chris Callahan examines the bone of a gray whale that washed ashore at Pebble Beach in April. Del Norte Triplicate / Bryant Anderson

Callahan, an associate professor of biology at College of the Redwoods and a member of Humboldt State University’s Marine Mammal Stranding Network, joins other scientists to determine how the animal died. He often brings his students with him.
