Annual 4th of July Run/Walk set for Sat.

The Annual Crescent City Fourth of July Run/Walk is scheduled to take place at its usual place and time; starting on Pebble Beach Drive near Washington at 10 a.m.

Youth Football Camp deadline approaches

The annual Warrior Youth Football camp will be held on the high school practice field July 8–10 this year. The camp aims to provide specialized training for each position as well as instill a positive winning attitude and the concept of teamwork.

The annual golfers migration from Redding to Del Norte took place on Saturday and Sunday as the silver stick lads from Shasta County met up with their counterparts in Del Norte at the Del Norte Golf Course for the 27th Annual Bill Speer III Memorial Sweepstakes.

 The first ever Steve Luis Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament drew 12 teams spread across three divisions on Saturday at Del Norte High School.

 Black snappers plentiful near harbor while salmon still elusive; halibut opens again July 1 

The fish in the ocean have held the status quo for another week. In what has become the trend this spring and early summer, ocean sportfishermen have been reporting plenty of black snappers and lingcod available around Crescent City. Meanwhile the salmon seem to be stubbornly holding in deep water, and anglers aren’t having much luck hooking them yet this year.

Little League All Star team takes 2nd at Districts


Del Norte 11–12 year-olds finish 2-2, 9–10 year-olds go 1-2 at districts

Del Norte Little League baseball has strong representation at the Oregon District 8 tournament this year as both the 9- and 10-year olds team and the 11- and 12-year-olds team came away from the competition with at least one win.

Warrior Memories: Hug more meaningful than wins or honors

On May 31st I was in Yucca Valley to be inducted into the Yucca Valley Athletic Hall of Fame as the first football coach and first athletic director of the high school. It was an honor to receive this award. I have had the privilege of  coaching for two great schools. The only reason I ever would have left Yucca was to come back to my hometown and coach, my dream job.

Del Norte girls tennis hosts junior clinic

The Del Norte girls tennis team will be conducting a junior tennis clinic 11 a.m. to noon from June 30 to July 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Jane Rumiano will be the head coach for the clinic, with members of the high school team serving as assistants.

Wild Rogue Relay: Race a grueling, wonderful experience

Crescent City got a 12-member team together, the Crabby Crew, to compete in the 214-mile Rogue River Relay last Friday and Saturday.  The first run in the heat of Applegate Valley was both beautiful and difficult through the rolling hills of farms and wineries. Those of us from the coast are not used to running in 80-plus degree heat!
