Death Notices, May 23, 2015

Erma Lee Ann Gist, 76, died May 17 in Smith River. She was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Wheeler, Texas, and was a 55-year resident of Del Norte County.

Private services will be held.  Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.

 Betty Lois Stanovich, 81, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on May 14, 2015, in Crescent City. She was born on Oct. 3, 1933, in Garland, Ark. She was a 45-year resident of Del Norte County. Betty was a graduate from Delano High School in Delano, Calif. She owned and operated the Beacon Burger with her husband, Stan Stanovich, from 1971 to 1995. The last 20 years Betty spent with her family at Kings Valley Golf Course. She loved her family, took care of them well, and was very proud of them.


Obituary: Teresa Shellabarger Holsworth (Dec. 25, 1928 - May 18, 2015)

She was born Teresa Carol Papadopulo to Byron and Zelma Papadopulo in Vallejo, Calif., on Dec. 25, 1928. Teresa married Lloyd (Buzz) Shellabarger in 1947 in San Francisco and eventually had a family of five: Steve, Ronald, Cindy, Judy and Gennie (twins). The family was together until his untimely death in 1972. Teresa took her family to Crescent City where she enjoyed working at Del Norte Title Company as well as Del Norte High School where she retired as a records clerk in 1986. Students would say she always had “a twinkle in her eye.” She was also a member of the Emblem Club.

 Harold Glen Lee passed away on May 1, 2015, in Crescent City, at the age of 74. He was born on Aug. 14, 1940, in Apache, Okla., to Florence and Abiggie Lee. 

Harold’s wife, Harriett LaFawn Lee, passed away on Dec. 24, 2014, at the age of 75. She was born Aug. 15, 1939, in Sayre, Okla.

 Born Dorothy Alice Sievers to Frank and Minna Sievers in Remsen, Iowa, on June 28, 1923, and married to Ralph Jerome Hollingsworth on Sept. 11, 1948, her initials, D.A.S.H., were so appropriate to the energy with which she approached life. Referred to by her husband simply as Babe, she was called Mom by many more than her four natural children.
