Warriors happy with scores in only home meet of season Thursday at Del Norte Golf Course 

The Del Norte girls golf team got to compete on its home turf, the Del Norte Golf Course, on Thursday in its second Humboldt-Del Norte League meet of the season and its only home meet of the year.

The Warriors had two girls compete in the meet. Junior Siera Fitzhugh finished with a score of 89 to take third place and fellow junior Gina Dana took 14th place with a round of 139.

Warriors fall 42-36 in furious finish

It was a wild end to a competitive game in Yreka on Friday night.

After Yreka and Del Norte traded blows for the first 44 minutes, the Miners looked to put the finishing touches on its home opening win with a 40-yard touchdown run from Drew Kannely-Robles, his fourth touchdown of the night, to put Yreka ahead 35-21 with just 3:25 remaining in the game.

With ocean salmon officially closed on the North Coast and the Klamath River’s adult Chinook quotas already met, bottom fishing out of Crescent City Harbor is probably the best bet for fishing in Del Norte County.  

If you want to take a drive, salmon in the Lower Rogue River have been red-hot.

Warrior girls tennis tops McKinleyville in home opener to stay undefeated after first two meets 

The Del Norte girls tennis team reached 2-0 on Tuesday after winning its home opener 6-3 over McKinleyville.

The Warriors were also able to get in a few bonus matches, with an exhibition singles match and two exhibition doubles matches to get some of the junior varsity players into the action.

Warriors hope to spoil Miners’ home opener, extend winning streak to three

The Del Norte football team is looking to continue its fast start to the 2014 season when they head to Yreka on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Although the Warriors have not faced the Miners on the gridiron in at least a decade, the two teams have some familiarity with one another. Del Norte head coach Ray Rook said the team sees Yreka every summer at the Gold Beach football camp, and the two teams even scrimmaged this year.

Girls soccer has rough start on road

The Del Norte girls soccer team had a rough first half on Wednesday against Ferndale and went on to drop its road opener 7-0.

Ferndale jumped on top of the Warriors early and used an 11-0 shot advantage in the first half to amass a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.

Del Norte takes advantage of free balls, Panthers' serve receive miscues in win

The Del Norte volleyball team continued to come together on Wednesday night in Thunen Gymnasium as they dispatched Gold Beach 3-0 (25-11. 25-13, 25-11) to improve to 6-1 in the young season.

The Warriors were able to build an early lead in all three sets and — unlike Monday’s game when Del Norte allowed several runs by Brookings to tighten up the score — were never challenged down the stretch.

Girls golf in Del Norte for only home meet

Fans of the Del Norte girls golf team have their only chance to watch the Warriors at home this season Thursday, starting at 11 a.m. at the Del Norte Golf Course as the Warriors host their Humboldt-Del Norte meet for the season.
