Obituary: Tawnya Lynn Richards (Dec. 7, 1965 – Oct. 6, 2015)

Read more... Tawnya Lynn Richards, of Smith River born Dec. 7, 1965 passed away Oct. 6, 2015. She attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of Del Norte.

Tawnya loved her boys and grandbabies with all her heart. She had many adopted nieces and nephews and was a major part of all their lives. She loved all her cousins and friends. Her favorite sayings: “I Love You” and “Turtle Power.” She had a big heart and a smile to light up the room. Tawnya was also a big daddy’s girl who loved and cherished her dad. She was one of kind and will be truly missed.

Obituary: Maxine G. Mouser (Aug. 23, 1925 – Oct. 4, 2015)

 Maxine G. Mouser, age 90, went to be with the Lord Oct. 4, 2015, in Medford. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who came into contact with her. She was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Philomath, Oregon, to George W. Henderson and Luella (January) Henderson. She had three siblings: Mary (Jackie) Babcock (deceased), Rodney Henderson (deceased), and Twila Muetzel. She grew up in logging camps throughout Oregon, especially in the Willamette Valley area. In high school she lived in Detroit, Oregon, where she met Theo William (Bill) Mouser. They were married Dec. 28, 1942, in Grants Pass and had four children: sons Theo William (Buddy) Mouser Jr., Michael James Mouser, Garry Robert Mouser and daughter Diana Louise Mouser. Bill and Maxine moved in 1950 to Klamath, where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends.

Lois Anne Governor-Urquhart, 58, died Sept. 27, 2015, in Burnaby, British Columbia, where she resided. She was born (March 17, 1957) and raised in Crescent City.

Services for friends and family in the U.S. will be announced at a later date.

Obituary: Elaine M. Moorehead (Feb. 5, 1947 – Oct. 3, 2015)

 Elaine M. Moorehead, born Feb. 5, 1947 of Crescent City, passed away Oct. 3, 2015. Elaine graduated Del Norte High in 1964. She was very athletic and had earned a Physical Education degree at San Francisco State University in 1975. She returned to Smith River with her three children. Elaine worked as an instructional aide and a softball coach for the Del Norte County Unified School District. Her passions were sewing, studying history and Indian law. She valued and motivated youth to continue their education and participate in their Native culture. Her family is most proud of the dance dress she created to participate in the local tribal ceremonies along with her many other tribal contributions.

She is survived by her three children, Mendy Hinshaw (Bill), Ronnie Owen, and Wade W. Owen (Deanna); brother, Darrell Moorehead; grandchildren: Kyle Hinshaw, Matthew Hinshaw, Wade and Amber Owen, De-Sre’ Richards, River Richards and Ashlee, Race Richards, Dessirae Stringfellow, Ashley Anderson, Jessamine Nail, Kimmy, Chase, Blake and Alexis Owen; and four great-grandchildren: Kaydence, Layton and Paisley Owen, Harmony Elaine Richards; and many cousins.

Kristina Marie Lane Nail, 36, of Oakdale, died Sept. 28, 2015, in Odale. She was born May 29, 1979, in Eugene, Oregon, and grew up in Crescent City.

Maverick Cheyenne Keith Lowery, 17, died Oct. 5, 2015, in Crescent City. He was born April 3, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Death Notice, Oct. 6, 2015

Raymond “Woody” Joseph Grott Jr. died Sept. 27, 2015, in Crescent City at the age of 73. He was born Oct. 22, 1941, in Chicago and was a 30-year resident of Del Norte County.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery.

David John DiFranco, 44, died suddenly on Sept. 29, 2015, in Crescent City. He was born Oct. 3, 1970, in Euclid, Ohio. David was a 5-year resident of Del Norte County.

Obituary: Jacklon Lee Wellman (March 15, 1934 – Sept. 22, 2015)

 Jackie Wellman peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family and friends on Sept. 22. She made conscious decisions regarding her cancer treatment, her wishes were honored with loving respect from her family, friends and health care providers. This support allowed her to remain at home, as comfortable as possible, finding joy in everyday moments with those she loved. Special gratitude is extended to Peggy Duff, Carol Hough, Randy and Julie Wellman because their personal commitment was invaluable to Jackie and her family in the final week of her life.

Jacklon is survived by her husband of 60 years, Albert Wellman, of Crescent City; her brother, Martin Shestek of Sunnyvale; her four children and their spouses/partners, Jim and Nancy Wellman, Bruce Wellman, Randy and Julie Wellman, and Karen and Eric Turner. Jackie is survived by nine grandchildren, James, Paul, Andy, Adam, Nichole, John, Savannah, Lucas and Kira. Jackie also leaves behind four great-grandchildren Drake, Ayla, Zinaya and Steven.

Obituary: Alex Joseph Csutoras (April 21, 1922– September 19, 2015)

Alex Csutoras died suddenly in Crescent City, California.

Alex was born and raised in Petaluma, California, and spent his youth hunting in the Sonoma Mountains. He was a radioman and PBY Gunner on a Naval Aircraft during World War II. A decorated veteran, Alex joined his father’s business in 1946 as a barber.

In 1967, Alex joined his wife in opening Golden Land Realty in Petaluma, California. After the death of his wife, Irene, Alex moved to Crescent City, California, in 1983. He was a well-known river guide and commercial fisherman who enjoyed hunting, gardening and loved growing flowers.

Obituary: Donna Marie Langford (Feb. 13, 1945 – Sept. 19, 2015)

Donna Marie Langford, born Feb. 13, 1945, in Albany, California, passed away Sept. 19, 2015, in Crescent City, California with her loving husband and family by her side.

Donna was a 60 year resident of Del Norte County. She attended Del Norte High School where she was on the tumbling team for one year and a member of the Girl’s League. She also competed in the Fishermen Daughter’s Pageant and won the judges over with her infectious smile and personality.

In 1969, she married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Langford of Klamath, California, which later became their permanent home for the couple and their four children: Tom Langford, Jr., Starla Lund, Michelle Fosdick, and Tammy Thompson.
