Wild Rogue Relay: Race a grueling, wonderful experience

Crescent City got a 12-member team together, the Crabby Crew, to compete in the 214-mile Rogue River Relay last Friday and Saturday.  The first run in the heat of Applegate Valley was both beautiful and difficult through the rolling hills of farms and wineries. Those of us from the coast are not used to running in 80-plus degree heat!

NW Trail Riders host Cowboy Trail Challenge

The Northwest Trail Riders, a local group of horse enthusiasts, hosted one of its six annual events, the Cowboy Trail Challenge, on July 14 at the Cadra Ranch at the end of Old Mill Road.

King of Clubs: Attire doesn't represent golf's roots

Traditionally, collared shirts and business slacks are commonplace on most golf courses throughout the country. Some clubs even go so far as to enforce dress codes and suspend their members or members’ guest privileges if such codes aren’t respected and upheld.

DN girls tennis hosts junior clinic

The Del Norte girls tennis team will be conducting a junior tennis clinic from June 30 to July 16 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to noon. Jane Rumiano will be the head coach for the clinic with members of the high school team serving as assistants.

The annual Father’s Day Golf Tournament brought 16 dads and their progeny out to Kings Valley Golf Course on Sunday. The father-son and father-daughter teams competed in a doubles best ball format for cash and other prizes.

Youth Football Camp July 8-10

The annual Warrior Youth Football camp will be held on the high school practice field July 8-10 this year. The camp aims to provide specialized training for each position as well as instilling a positive winning attitude and the concept of teamwork.

Del Norte alum Harold Jones is organizing a coed three-on-three basketball tournament, the Steve Luis Memorial Tournament, on June 27.

Warrior Memories: Rumiano a godsend for tennis

It has been about 23 years since I retired as athletic director at Del Norte High School. During my time as the AD I had the privilege of hiring Jane Rumiano to coach the girls tennis team.
