Revisiting a new path

Actor William E. Roberts returns to his Del Norte roots as a writer in two books, “An Ill Wind” and “Close to Home.” Courtesy William E. Roberts
Editor’s note: Triplicate Features Editor Jessica Cejnar received an acknowledgement in “An Ill Wind” for her help in the revision phase of Roberts’ book.

It may be difficult to peg William E. Roberts as a Del Norter.

His voice belies the 49 years he’s lived in Britain as well as his career as a stage actor, a voice actor and a narrator of audiobooks. But as he travels further down a new path as a writer, Roberts returns to the land of his childhood and in his first novel dumps a body in the Smith River.

“I had this idea, well, suppose this body is found, let’s see where that will lead,” Roberts said, adding that his main character, Arnold “Arnie” Rednapp, an investigative journalist from San Francisco, happens upon the scene by accident. “I felt my way as if I was Arnie Rednapp: What would I do next? I would use any friends I have to help dig out information.”
