 The Del Norte County Fairgrounds were packed with emergency equipment ranging from squad cars to fire trucks and helicopters on Wednesday as representatives from nine different agencies involved with mitigating emergencies and disasters in the county met to take stock of all the resources that are available in such situations.

A U.S. Coast Guard medevac operation rescued a 33-year-old crewmember of a 376-foot commercial fishing vessel 30 miles off the coast of Crescent City Tuesday evening after the man lost consciousness and was suffering from chest pain, according to the Coast Guard.


Humboldt requests release of 50,000 acre feet into Trinity

Anticipating another season of low flows, Humboldt County requested this week that its 50,000 acre feet of water be released into the Trinity River this year, per a 60-year-old water rights agreement that the U.S. Department of the Interior upheld as legitimate at the end of last year. 


Six Rivers campgrounds mostly open by Friday

Most of the campgrounds in the Six Rivers National Forest will be open by Friday, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

The first ever Noll Stand Up Paddle Board Race was greeted with sunny skies and calm water on Saturday morning as the event kicked off with a 5-mile paddle from Garth’s Beach to South Beach along the Crescent City coast.

“We really couldn’t have asked for a better day for it than that,” said Rhyn Noll, who organized and participated in the race. “The ocean was calm and the sun was out — we all got a little bit burnt on Saturday.”
