 On Jan. 28, 2015, Bonnie began her journey across the river from this life to the next. She joins her husband, Franklin DelaCruz Sr.; son, Christopher Neil Samuelson; parents, Cornelius and Alberta (Bahr) Moorehead and brother, Harvey Moorehead. On this shore she leaves behind sons Gregory Allen Samuelson and Franklin DelaCruz Jr.; daughters Dawneen R. DelaCruz and LeighAnn Pudmeroff; grandsons James Black and Nathaniel Samuelson and numerous other grandchildren. Sister, Elaine M. Moorehead; brother, Darrell L. Moorehead; nieces, Mendy Hinshaw and Ronnie Owen; nephew, “Gator” Wade W. Owen; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and faithful friend Dorothy Baker.

 Grady Matthew Gilbert passed away with his family by his side on Feb. 21, 2015, after a decline in his health. Grady was born on April 28, 1976, in Marysville. He lived most of his childhood in Tehachapi until moving to Crescent City.


Obituary: Lewis “Ed” Edward Dungey (May 14, 1921 – May 15, 2014)

Lewis Edward “Ed” Dungey was born May 14, 1921, in Grants Pass, Ore., to Charles and Lilly Dungey. He attended high school at Grants Pass High and played football. He died in Medford, Ore., on May 15, 2014, at the age of 93. 

He married Katherine Elizabeth Fry. He later married Tina Louise (Rosella) Weims. 


Obituary: Eugene Warren Varner (Nov. 1, 1930 – Feb. 12, 2015)

Eugene (Gene) Varner passed away on Feb. 12, 2015, in Wake Forest, N.C., at the age of 84. He was born on Nov. 1, 1930, in Grants Pass, Ore., the eldest child of Percy and Isora Varner.

A long-time resident of Crescent City, Gene and his beloved wife of 60 years, Martha Varner, recently moved to North Carolina to be near family as he battled dementia. Gene graduated from Lakeview (Ore.) High School, served in the Air Force as a radio technician, and then attended Oregon Technical Institute, where he learned the trade of auto body repair and painting.

Mary Melinda Schillinger, born Dec. 4, 1955, in Dallas, Ore., passed away at the age of 59 on Feb. 15, 2015, in Crescent City. She was a 24-year resident of Del Norte County.

Joseph Vernal Duncan, 70, passed away at home on Feb. 16, 2015. He was born on May 4, 1944, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Thelma and Vernal Duncan. Joe was a 60-year resident of Del Norte County. In 1970, Joe purchased the Chevron Station on Hwy 101 North, which became a daily stopping point for many in Crescent City. When time permitted, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Robin M. De La Torre-Lopez passed away on Feb. 12, 2015, suddenly from complications of cardiovascular disease.

Born in Crescent City on July 5, 1968, she grew up and lived most of her life in Del Norte County. She worked in the medical field the majority of her career and developed quite a passion for it. Robin took pride and often boasted about her exceptional ability to “find a vein” even in the most challenging patients. She was known for her kindness, charismatic personality, enormous sense of humor and compassion for others.
