Obituary: Jesse K. (Jake) Ingram (Jan. 4, 1958 – July 24, 2014)

Jesse K. (Jake) Ingram
Jake Ingram died Sunday, July 13, 2014, of complications following a stroke. He was 56 years old.

A lifetime resident of Del Norte County, Jake enjoyed hunting, fishing, pitbulls, bicycles, NASCAR and his large collection of music. He was a graduate of Del Norte High School and worked for many years at lumber mills and fisheries in the area. Jake was known for his sense of humor and his love of a good time, which he shared with all who knew him.


Obituary: Linda L. Cairns

Linda L. Cairns passed away July 4, 2014, after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Lakeview, Ore., Linda moved to Smith River with her parents as a child. She spent most of life living in Smith River, where she raised two children. She was a caring and supportive daughter, sister and mother.


Death Notice: Marvin Jerome Jerke

Marvin Jerome Jerke, 46, died in Arcata on July 14.  A lifelong resident of Del Norte County, he was born Nov. 16, 1967.


Obituary: Robert F. Burtschell (July 16, 1947 – July 13, 2014)

Robert F. “Bobby” Burtschell passed away July 13, 2014, at the age of 66 at OHSU Hospital in Portland, following an accident near his home in Gasquet.

Bob was born in Crescent City on July 16, 1947.  His great-grandfather was Francis Burtschell, one of Del Norte County’s early settlers, a prominent dairy farmer, and the original owner of the Surf Hotel in Crescent City. His grandfather, Francis Burtschell Jr., was the Del Norte County Assessor and owner of the Ford dealership.  His parents were Frank “Junior” Burtschell and Rachel, owners of Burtschell’s Paints.


Obituary: Marvin ‘Roni’ Jerome Jerke Jr. (Nov. 16, 1967 – July 14, 2014)

Marvin “Roni” Jerome Jerke Jr., 46, passed away in Arcata, Calif., on July 14, 2014.  A lifelong resident of Del Norte County, he was born Nov. 16, 1967. He attended local schools in Del Norte County.

Marvin enjoyed camping and fishing on the Klamath River, and he loved his dog, Baby.  He was a loving and caring person who will be missed by many.


Death Notice: Rollin “Bud” Smith III

Rollin “Bud” Smith III, 34, a former Crescent City resident, died July 10 in an accident on the Trinity River. He was born Nov. 18, 1979.

Berni Rimack, 70, died July 13. She was born May 8, 1944, to Antonio and Flora Scaplo in Pueblo, Colo.


Obituary: Berni Rimack (May 8, 1944 – July 13, 2014)

Berni Rimack, proud wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Emblem Club member, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 surrounded by love and her family. She was 70 years old.

Berni was born May 8, 1944, to Antonio and Flora Scaplo in Pueblo, Colorado.  In 1962, she married Ron Rimack, with the couple spending 52 years together in marriage.


Obituary: Adreath Whisenhunt (May 18, 1937 – July 11, 2014)

Adreath Whisenhunt passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones on July 11, 2014.  Adreath was born in Mina, Arkansas.  In 1954, he moved to Crescent City, where he met his beautiful wife Jo-Ann.  He worked at McNamara & Peepe Lumber for 35 years.  Adreath had many hobbies, family first then hunting, fishing, camping and his wood work.


Death Notice: Lois M. Holzworth

Lois M. Holzworth, 85, died July 11, 2014, in Crescent City.  Born July 24, 1928, in Washington, she was a 27-year resident of Del Norte County.
