A total of 13 paddlers braved the bumpy conditions on Saturday at the Noll Paddle Festival to complete the 5-mile course starting near Whaler’s Island and ending up on Garth’s Beach. The second annual Noll Paddle Festival was considerably more bumpy than the first, but despite the conditions returning overall champion James Bavin of Arcata was able to defend his fastest time overall, shaving over two minutes off of the course record that he set in 2015, setting the mark at 55:40.
“This was definitely a brutal paddle for these guys,” said event organizer Rhyn Noll. “They are all extremely tough for banging that one out. It was really rough over there by the lighthouse and then once we got over here to (Pebble Beach) it started to calm down a little bit.”
