'Breaking Barriers'

DN, Humboldt locals celebrate all abilities at barbecue 

Dennis Mendes and Matthew Bailey live on opposite sides of the region. Bailey is a Del Norter and Mendes is from Redway in southern Humboldt. 

Both went head-to-head in a game of horseshoes at the Disability Pride Day barbecue at Florence Keller Park on Friday. With attendance near 200 people, the first-ever event brought those with disabilities and those who care for them together with folks lucky enough not to have a disability.
