Obituary: Jacklon Lee Wellman (March 15, 1934 – Sept. 22, 2015)

 Jackie Wellman peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family and friends on Sept. 22. She made conscious decisions regarding her cancer treatment, her wishes were honored with loving respect from her family, friends and health care providers. This support allowed her to remain at home, as comfortable as possible, finding joy in everyday moments with those she loved. Special gratitude is extended to Peggy Duff, Carol Hough, Randy and Julie Wellman because their personal commitment was invaluable to Jackie and her family in the final week of her life.

Jacklon is survived by her husband of 60 years, Albert Wellman, of Crescent City; her brother, Martin Shestek of Sunnyvale; her four children and their spouses/partners, Jim and Nancy Wellman, Bruce Wellman, Randy and Julie Wellman, and Karen and Eric Turner. Jackie is survived by nine grandchildren, James, Paul, Andy, Adam, Nichole, John, Savannah, Lucas and Kira. Jackie also leaves behind four great-grandchildren Drake, Ayla, Zinaya and Steven.

Obituary: Alex Joseph Csutoras (April 21, 1922– September 19, 2015)

Alex Csutoras died suddenly in Crescent City, California.

Alex was born and raised in Petaluma, California, and spent his youth hunting in the Sonoma Mountains. He was a radioman and PBY Gunner on a Naval Aircraft during World War II. A decorated veteran, Alex joined his father’s business in 1946 as a barber.

In 1967, Alex joined his wife in opening Golden Land Realty in Petaluma, California. After the death of his wife, Irene, Alex moved to Crescent City, California, in 1983. He was a well-known river guide and commercial fisherman who enjoyed hunting, gardening and loved growing flowers.

Obituary: Donna Marie Langford (Feb. 13, 1945 – Sept. 19, 2015)

Donna Marie Langford, born Feb. 13, 1945, in Albany, California, passed away Sept. 19, 2015, in Crescent City, California with her loving husband and family by her side.

Donna was a 60 year resident of Del Norte County. She attended Del Norte High School where she was on the tumbling team for one year and a member of the Girl’s League. She also competed in the Fishermen Daughter’s Pageant and won the judges over with her infectious smile and personality.

In 1969, she married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Langford of Klamath, California, which later became their permanent home for the couple and their four children: Tom Langford, Jr., Starla Lund, Michelle Fosdick, and Tammy Thompson.

Obituary: Kevin Danial Mertens (Dec. 21, 1982 - Sept. 12, 2015)

Kevin was born at Seaside Hospital and grew up in Del Norte County. He received his high school diploma in Utah. Despite his muscular dystrophy, Kevin excelled in sports. In the Special Olympics he won the softball throw several years in a row, among other awards. Kevin enjoyed friends, family, and sharing the love of others. He loved camping with his mom and stepfather, Debbie and Steve Fillman. Kevin is survived by an older brother, Michael J. Mertens, his father Dennis Mertens, his mother Debbie Fillman, his stepfather Steve Fillman, his grandmother Carole Fillman, his aunt Tracey Winters and numerous cousins. He was preceeded in death by his younger brother, Josh D. Mertens, who passed away during childbirth.

His smile, humor and plain kindness will be greatly missed. You will be missed, our son.

In place of flowers his family asks that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Death Notice, Sept. 26, 2015

Terry Cox Turley, 55, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, in Crescent City. She was born July 20, 1959, in San Jose. Terry was a one-year resident of Del Norte County.

Services are pending at this time and will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.

Obituary: Bonnie Cushman (Dec. 7, 1948 – Sept. 14, 2015)

Bonnie Lou (Hanson) Cushman
Bonnie Lou (Hanson) Cushman, 66, of Fort Dick, California, passed away Sept. 14, 2015. Bonnie was born Dec. 7, 1948 to George and Margaret Hanson of Fort Dick.

She attended Redwood Elementary School and Del Norte High School, later graduating from Salvatore’s College of Hairstyling in Sacramento, California.

In 1969 she married Bill Cushman of Elk Creek, California and they made their home there. In 1980 they returned to Fort Dick. Since graduating beauty school she had owned and operated her own beauty salons until she became too ill to continue. She always loved the interaction with her customers.

Leon (Tiney) Adelia Tomasini, born Nov. 12, 1921, in Klamath, died at the age of 93 on Sept. 20, 2015, in Crescent City

Obituary: Stanley Arthur Gregory (March 25, 1952 – Aug. 19, 2015)

 Stanley Arthur Gregory, 63, of Albany, Oregon, passed away Aug. 19, 2015. Stanley Gregory was born March 25, 1952 in Toledo, Oregon, to Clinton and Lola Gregory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton A. Gregory in 1962, his mother Lola E. Moore in 2003 and stepfather Robert H. Moore.

He is survived by his sons, John Clinton Gregory, Jacob Daniel Gregory; grandchildren, Aoran Gregory, Serenity Gregory, Rhylan Gregory and Charleigh Gregory; his sister Gayla Moore and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Death Notice, Sept. 17, 2015

Cordelia Fugate Klinger died in Crescent City on Sept. 11, 2015. She was born April 28, 1920, in Silver Cliff, Wisconsin.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday at noon at Faith Christian Assembly of God Church, 1st and Brookings, in Smith River. Interment has taken place at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery in Crescent City.

Obituary: Cordelia Fugate Klinger (April 28, 1920 - Sept. 11, 2015)

Fugate Klinger
 Cordelia Fugate Klinger, born April 28, 1920 in Silver Cliff, Wisconsin, passed away at Crescent City Rehabilitation and Nursing in Crescent City, on Sept. 11, 2015. She moved to Crescent City in 1953 and was employed most of her working years cooking at the Villa Capri and The Landing restaurants. “Cordy” also cooked at Seaside Hospital, Crescent City Convalescent Hospital and at the Del Norte Senior Center. Over the years, she attended the following churches in Crescent City: Oceanview Baptist, Brother George Wickizer’s Church, Grace Lutheran Church, Assembly of God and Faith Christian Assembly of God in Smith River.  Cordy was married to Earl Fugate in 1938 and later married Joe Klinger in 1986.
