Hampton Inn owner plans Ore. hotel

Crescent City Hampton Inn andamp; Suites owner Xiao Jin Yuan has proposed building an 85-room hotel on the banks of Oregon's South Umpqua River at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

He presented his plans to Douglas County Fair Board last week.

His general manager, Ognjen Popadic, said that Roseburg would be an attractive location for a new hotel.

One of the Fair Board's members, Bernis Wagner, approved of the fairgrounds location, noting the hotel's presence would help to attract more conventions. The five-member board was not asked to make a decision, however.

Western region Franchise Development Manager for Hilton Hotels Corp., Donald Wen, said the process of finding a location, securing the permits, building and opening a hotel generally takes about two years.

Hilton Hotels is Hampton Inn's parent company.
