The beauty of the ocean and our forests has been in Cindy Vosburg's mind since she was a girl.

The pull was so strong that it enticed her to sell her home in Modesto and relocate here as The Daily Triplicate's and Curry Coastal Pilot's new advertising director as the new year began.

andquot;Anythingandquot; involved with Crescent City catches her eye, Vosburg said.

andquot;We used to come and visit my Aunt Eva and Uncle Everett Lawless when I was a girl,andquot; she said.

Lawless worked as a commercial fisherman here.

The lure of Crescent City reached out to Vosburg last May. She was then working for the Modesto Bee as one of the paper's top ad sales/managers at the time, and spotted an article on the California Newspaper Publishers Association Web site about Michele Thomas' promotion to Triplicate publisher.

andquot;I e-mailed her to congratulate her and ask her how Crescent City was,andquot; Vosburg said.

Vosburg didn't know she had set in motion the wheels that would bring her back.

The two kept up their correspondence, as Thomas repeatedly told Vosburg how andquot;well-suitedandquot; she was for the job.

Something clicked in Vosburg's mind.

andquot;I was happy in Modesto, but the timing was right both personally and professionally,andquot; she said. andquot;We sold our house and I committed to be here Jan. 22.

Caravanning with her andquot;wonderfulandquot; husband of 32 years, Richard, their dog, Moe and four cats, the couple left their former home in Escalon (in the Modesto area) and headed north.

As a professional woman, Vosburg said that an initial conversation with strangers at Del Norte County Airport also inclined her toward relocating.

She andquot;grilledandquot; her fellow passengers about Crescent City and Brookings' newspapers as they waited for their luggage.

andquot;They read, they knew the editors' names and they loved the papers,andquot; she said. andquot;That's not what you find in other parts of the country, that and the response from advertisers is what you want.andquot;

Thomas said Vosburg possesses the characteristics necessary for the job.

andquot;Cindy brings a combination of experience, enthusiasm and energy to the job,andquot; Thomas said. andquot;Those are all things that are important to Charlie and to me, and to go between and manage two staffs, she needs that.andquot;

Added Kocher, andquot;Cindy brings a wealth of experience and and wonderful attitude to this position. It will be exciting to have her involved in serving our customers along the Wild Rivers Coast.andquot;

Now that she's here, Vosburg wants to develop her sales staff.

andquot;I want to lead them to the next level,andquot; she said.
