'Much Ado About Nothing'

The Chetco Pelican Players present Shakespeare's andquot;Much Ado About Nothingandquot; today through Sunday at the Chetco Playhouse in Brookings. Performances are at 8 p.m. today and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Tolowa Dunes programs

Special August programs at Tolowa Dunes State Park cover different topics at 1 p.m. every Sunday. All begin at the Lake Earl Wildlife Office/Tolowa Dunes Visitor Center at the end of Old Mill Road in Crescent City.Sunday's topic is Sea Birds and Marine Mammals.

Birds and mammals

Join the North Coast Redwood Interpretive Association and the Tolowa Dunes Stewards for an afternoon of coastal bird and marine mammal viewing at Tolowa Dunes State Park beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. Wildlife Biologist Craig Strong will lead participants on a carpool fieldtrip starting from the Lake Earl Wildlife Center in Crescent City.

Hospice Rummage Sale

The Event Center at the Beach in Gold Beach, Ore., will be filled with bargain hunters during the eighth annual Curry County Home Health and Hospice Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Gold Beach Art Roll

Seven art galleries in Gold Beach, Ore., are opening for the inaugural Gold Beach Art Roll from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Do a self-guided tour or take a bus to the events.

Salmon derbies

The 12th annual Salmon Derby of the Curry Sportfishing Association is set for Saturday, headquartered at Jot's Resort in Gold Beach, Ore.

The fourth annual Slam'n Salmon Ocean Derby is set for Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and 2, with $15,000 in total prizes, operating from the Port of Brookings Harbor.

Festival of Homes

The Chetco Federal Credit Union Festival of Homes offers the biggest open house event of the year on Saturday and Sunday. Get a map and list of homes open for tour in Curry and Del Norte counties at CFCU branches.

Open Mic

The Winchuck Volunteers are hosting another Open Mic at the 360 Event Centerat 7 p.m. Saturday at The 360 Event Center, located near mile marker 360 on Highway 101 in Harbor.

Azalea Park concert

The free summer concerts at the bandshell in Brookings' Azalea Park continue at 1 p.m. Sunday with local rhythm and blues group Sans Prophet. The American Music Festival series continues every other Sunday through Sept. 16.

Star gazing

California State Parks offer anopportunity to view the night sky in the Mill Creek Watershed of Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, south of Crescent City, overnight Monday-Tuesday. Participants will meet at the Hamilton Road entrance of the park at 6 p.m. and should be prepared to be comfortable for the night. A ranger will lead a caravan to where meteor showers will be visible. The event ends at 6 a.m. the next day.

Winchuck BBQ

The Winchuck Volunteers are back with their annual barbecue and auction, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at the Winchuck Firehall.

Berry Fest

California State Parks will sponsor the second annual Berry Fest in the Mill Creek Watershed of Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. TheBerry Fest begins at the day-use parking area on Hamilton Road, three miles south of Crescent City on Highway 101.

Coastal Cleanup

The annual California Coastal Cleanup day will take place at 700 locations throughout the state from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 15. Get site information at

Champagne cruise

The annual Curry Health Foundation's champagne dinner cruise on the Rogue River from Gold Beach to Agness is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16.

Open markets

Several open-air markets operate during the summer months along the Wild Rivers Coast, including:

?The Brookings-Harbor Farmers Market, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the Port of Brookings Harbor.

?The Crescent City Farmers Market, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds.

?The Farmers and Outdoor Market on the grounds of Masquerade Village at the Port of Brookings Harbor, every Saturday, Sunday and holidays through October.

?The Wednesday Farmers Market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hidden Treasures Mall parking lot behind the Central Building, 703 Chetco Ave., Brookings.
