Redwood National and State Parks offer weekend of activities for kids, adults

Redwood National and State Parks offers free programs through the weekend. And explorers can now venture into the Mill Creek Watershed at Hamilton Road 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through the summer.

Junior rangers can take part in andquot;Understory Explorersandquot; at 10 a.m. today at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center and andquot;Amazing Adaptationsandquot; at 3 p.m. at the Jedediah Smith Campground.

At 10 a.m., nature walks include andquot;Marvelous Members of the Redwood Forestandquot; at Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail; andquot;Ranches, Roosevelt and Redwoodsandquot; at Prairie Creek Visitor Center; and andquot;Owls and Old Growthandquot; at Simpson-Reed Grove.

At 2 p.m., andquot;Lady Bird's Legacyandquot; begins at the Lady Bird Johnson trail and andquot;Stomping in Stout Groveandquot; starts at Stout Grove parking area.

Campfire programs at 8:30 p.m. include andquot;Bearing it Allandquot; at Elk Prairie Campground and andquot;The Olympians of Redwoodandquot; at Jedediah Smith Campground.

On Sunday, junior rangers can take part in andquot;Millipede Madness and Other Incredible Invertebratesandquot; at 10 a.m. at Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

andquot;Wonders of the Wetlandsandquot; starts at Tolowa Dunes State Park at 1 p.m.

Nature walks at 2 p.m. include andquot;Old Growth Redwoods: What they are and Why they are Importantandquot; at the Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail and andquot;It's a Small Worldandquot; at the Simpson-Reed Grove.

The campfire program andquot;Don't Make a Banana Slug Split!andquot; starts at 8:30 p.m. at Elk Prairie Campground.

On Monday, junior rangers can join andquot;So You Want to be a Biologistandquot; at 10 a.m. at Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

Nature walks at 2 p.m. include andquot;Lady Bird's Legacyandquot; at Lady Bird Johnson trail and andquot;Treasures of Timeandquot; at the Stout Grove parking area.

The andquot;Baby Animalsandquot; campfire program will start at 8:30 p.m. at Elk Prairie Campground.

On Tuesday, junior rangers can join andquot;Betting on Natureandquot; at Prairie Creek Visitor Center at 10 a.m. and andquot;Helping Salmon Surviveandquot; at 10:30 a.m. at Mill Creek Campground.

Nature walks at 2 p.m. include andquot;The Redwood Hotelandquot; at the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail and andquot;The Secret Lives of Treesandquot; at the Stout Grove parking area.

Campfire programs at 8:30 p.m. include andquot;Giants of Redwood National and State Parksandquot; at Elk Prairie Camp-ground and andquot;All is Not as it Appears: The Coastal Conn-ectionandquot; at Mill Creek Campground.
