State and National Parks hold weekend activities

Redwood National and State Parks offers free programs this weekend.

On Saturday, junior rangers can take part in andquot;Understory Explorersandquot; at 10 a.m. at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center and andquot;Amazing Adaptationsandquot; at 3 p.m. at the Jedediah Smith Campground.

Nature walks include andquot;Wetlands and Waterfallsandquot; at the Elk Meadow day use area and andquot;Ranches, Roosevelt and Redwoodsandquot; at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center, both at 10 a.m. At 2 p.m., andquot;Wind and Fire: The Lifecycle of the Redwood Forestandquot; starts at the Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail and andquot;Lifecycle in the Ancient Forestandquot; starts at the Nickerson Ranch trail on Howland Hill Road.

Campfire programs on Saturday night include andquot;Bearing it Allandquot; at Elk Prairie Campground and andquot;The Olympians of Redwoodandquot; at Jedediah Smith Campground, both at 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, junior rangers can join andquot;So You Want to Be a Biologist?andquot; at Prairie Creek Visitor Center at 10 a.m.

Nature walks include andquot;See One Redwood, You've Seen 'Em All...Or Have You?andquot; at the Big Tree parking area at 10 a.m.

andquot;Coastal Bluffs andamp; Tideline Excursionandquot; will start at noon from Tolowa Dunes State Park, with pre-registration by calling 465-2144.

At 2 p.m., andquot;Marvelous Members of the Redwood Forestandquot; starts at the Lady Bird Johnson trail and andquot;It's a Small Worldandquot; starts at Simpson-Reed Grove. andquot;Fabulous Fernsandquot; meets at Fern Canyon trail at 3 p.m.

At 8:30 p.m., a campfire program - andquot;Roosevelt Elk: More than Just Big Deer!andquot; - will start at Elk Prairie Campground.
