The College of the Redwoods has selected Tom Harris, a veteran community college administrator, to become its interim president.
Harris accepted the offer from the CR board of Trustees on Wednesday and will start as president on July 1. He will reside as interim president for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Harris has 44 years in California education and most recently served during 2006-2007 as interim president for West Hills College in Coalinga.
Before his stint there, Harris served as interim president for four other colleges between 2001 and 2006.
andquot;We are looking forward to having him come to CR and help us solve the challenges with which we are faced,andquot; CR Board of Trustees Vice President John Burke said about the board's decision on Harris.
Harris is a community college graduate, receiving his associate's in general education from Compton Community College. He received a bachelor's in psychology from San Jose State College, a master's in education and a doctorate in higher education from the University of Southern California.
