BROOKINGS - Brookings Police Chief Chris Wallace and two other officers escaped major injuries Monday when a truck crashed through the window of Wallace's office, sending him, his desk and another officer flying.

The truck was operated by Richard W. Korb, 62, who suffered a seizure and was unable to control his vehicle coming off of Elk Drive to Fifth Street. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Wallace was meeting with Brookings Police Lt. John Bishop and Curry County Sheriff Lt. John Ward at about 12:15 p.m. when they heard a car horn honk followed a split-second later by the crash of a late model Toyota Tacoma truck as it drove through the office.

Wallace, who was sitting at his desk with his back to the window, was struck from behind. He was catapulted forward, along with his desk, which struck Ward, who was on the other side. Bishop was sitting in a chair off to the side and was hit by flying debris.

Wallace's office was completely destroyed, Bishop said.

andquot;I heard the horn, but I didn't know what it was,andquot; a slightly bruised and limping Ward said at the scene. andquot;Then 'Blam!' The truck came through the window. The bumper hit Chris right in the back.andquot;

Ward declined treatment, while Wallace was treated by paramedics at the scene. Korb was transported by Cal-Ore Ambulance to the hospital.

The truck careened off the road to the right, over a curb and through a flower bed before hitting the building.

andquot;When I reached him it looked like he was in full seizure,andquot; Bishop said.

Oregon State Police was contacted to handle the accident scene.
