andquot;A farcical mystery of a collaboration gone wrongandquot; - That's how Del Norte High school senior Alex McGlasson described the new play that the high school's theatre production class is putting on this weekend.
The show opens today.
It will feature the andquot;genteel murdersandquot; of Whitney and Jessica Olive (played by Mathew Kihs and Ashley Fones), the infamous surprise ending of Mildred Z. Maxwell (Caitlin Knox), undetectable gadgets gifted by Brad Benedict (Kyle Cumbra) and the ever-suave, two-fisted and two-gunned Jack Club wrought by Rodney Duckton (Doug Wilson).
The story initially takes place in WMT Studios, a television broadcast center that has brought together the murder mystery masterminds of the time in an effort to andquot;combine these talents, to put a little Maxwell here, a splash of Benedict there, a dose of Duckton, a few dashes of Olives, and come up with a tossed salad of murder!andquot;
The authors are brought to a lost Caribbean pirate island named Vulture's Vault, where they are set to create a new story. As they unfruitfully seek a plot line, one begins to unfold itself in front of the writers. In an attempt of reasonable deduction, the writers each begin to analyze their own and their counterparts' writing styles, bringing to the stage imaginary scenes of jealousy, deceit, horror, mobsters, ghoulish creatures, secret CIA agents and woe-begone horror monsters.
Added to the effect are Jane the Maid (portrayed by Alexis Jacob), Gregory, the Dracula-like butler (Ben Tell) and Jeanette Summers, the nervous WMT Studios representative (played by Crystell Wise).
The show begins at 7 p.m. the next two Fridays and Saturdays in Del Norte High's multipurpose room. A special Mother's Day matinee is planned for 2 p.m., when the first 100 mothers will receive a special gift.
