OK, maybe he's been too busy reviewing his investment portfolio to know better. But multi-billionaire Warren Buffet showed where his heart was when he sidestepped regional salmon fishermen's and American Indian tribes' request that he support their campaign to remove dams on the Klamath River. The response of Buffet, whose holding company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc., owns dam operator PacifiCorp: The federal and state government knows what's best because they've heard from all 27 groups interested in the dams.

Buffet certainly didn't need the government's help deciding where he would donate billions to charity. He ought to have someone in Berkshire Hathaway take the time to study this issue and fill him in on what is the socially responsible step to take with the profitable dams. That decision is clearer than one may think, so long as one's heart is in the right place - mainly, so long as it's not under one's pocketbook.
