The Daily Triplicate won eight awards for its news coverage, the California Newspaper Publishers Association announced Thursday.

Three of the Triplicate's awards - for its coverage of the Nov. 15 tsunami, for an investigative piece about breakdowns in the tsunami warning system and for its front-page design - could yet be named best in state for their categories. Final results for the association's Better Newspapers Contest will be announced July 14 in San Francisco.

andquot;It's always flattering to win an award, but doubly so when it comes from your peers,andquot; Triplicate Editor Rob Bignell said. andquot;The awards only have inspired us to work even harder to cover Del Norte County.andquot;

Entries in the contest came from Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2006. Newspapers are judged against those with similar circulation sizes from across California.
