John Helgeson is the artist of the month for May at Crescent Harbor Gallery, 140 Marine Way. Helgeson holds a bachelors of fine arts in advertising art and a masters of fine arts in printmaking from the California College of the Arts in Oakland.

With the exception of teaching printmaking at California State University, Hayward, most of his career was spent working as an art director. He has participated in group shows around the country and has received numerous awards for his work, which is also represented in permanent collections at the Library of Congress, the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts in San Francisco and the Brooklyn Museum of Art.

Samples of Helgeson's work are available for viewing beginning Tuesday, along with the works of other gallery members. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
