TRINIDAD - A man was convicted over the weekend for stealing American Indian artifacts and remains from a Yurok Indian burial site in the Tsurai Village, located on the southern edge of Trinidad.

Taylor Lang Cornejo, 26, from Arcata was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service. He also must write a letter of apology to the Tsurai Ancestral Society - an organization made up of descendants of the village - and is banned from all Yurok ancestral land from Moon-stone Beach to the Hum-boldt-Del Norte county line. This ban includes all land in state and national parks. Cornejo, as part of his sentencing, was ordered to pay restitution to the Yurok Tribe for his actions.
