Del Norte Fair Board members have chosen the theme of this year's fair: children.

andquot;We decided to build on Supervisor (David) Finigan's Year of the Child theme,andquot; Del Norte County Fair CEO Randy Hatfield said. andquot;We're about kids and families anyway.andquot;

Using the child theme as its foundation, Fair Board members voted to expand the event's Kid's Corner area by bringing in a special exhibit that teaches to children.

Called Brad's World Reptiles, the exhibit describes itself as andquot;Cold-blooded fun at its finest.andquot;

It will bring reptiles and birds up close to the children who stop by, with lots of andquot;hands-on fun stuff,andquot; Hatfield said.

They'll see, touch and learn about frogs, turtles, lizards, snakes and insects, watch nature videos about them, and see parrots and alligators.

More than 40 varieties of live animals will be on display in the nearly 3,000 square foot exhibit, which will be under the supervision of two staff workers.

For the Country-Western fans, Neal McCoy is this year's featured headliner.

Two-time Entertainer of the Year and proud owner of three platinum and one gold albums on his wall, McCoy is also head of 903 Music, whose first release, andquot;That's Life,andquot; is due out this summer. Among other tunes, it features one called andquot;Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On.andquot;

With the collection, his press information states the performer andquot;comes a step closer to us all, speaking through songs that will soon mean as much to us as they do to him.andquot;
