Del Norte County Sheriff's officers found human remains over the weekend that may belong to a local man who has been missing nearly eight months.

The skeletal remains, false teeth and clothing found may belong to Gene Pillow, who suffers Alzheimer's disease and dementia, Sheriff Dean Wilson said. They were found near Pillow's Parkway Drive home, which he walked away from June 16, never to return.

andquot;We are currently investigating to make a determination to who the remains belonged to,andquot; Wilson said.

He should know if the remains are of Pillow, 81, within of couple days, and possibly sooner if dental records can be found.

The remains were found Saturday in a large cow pasture just north of Sandmann Road, just off Parkway Drive.

County search and rescue volunteers combed the area Pillow was last seen several times following his disappearance. Some of those searches included dogs trained to find cadavers, but turned up nothing.

The dogs picked up scents on Parkway Drive and a side street, said Valeta Kieny, Pillow's oldest of three daughters, andquot;but it didn't go into the woods or anything.andquot;

Missing person notices also were sent to state and nation-wide law enforcement agencies, Wilson said, to no avail.

andquot;We believe strongly that it's Gene,andquot; Wilson said.
