City, county plan meeting to discuss ways to improve efficiency

The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors will meet with the Crescent City Council in a special session on Monday to discuss ways they can sharing services.

Potential benefits include making both governments more efficient and saving dollars.

City Manager Eli Naffah said the area is so remote and has such a small population, that the city and county need to work together to streamline services.

andquot;We want to see if there are some other areas that we can cooperate together,andquot; he said. andquot;The ultimate goal is: They're (the county) a government body and we're (the city) a government body, and if there are areas we can be more efficient we should explore them.andquot;

Naffah and County Board chairman David Finigan both said the city and county all ready do work together on certain issues, but a more integrated approach to community affairs is needed.

andquot;We do work together,andquot; said Finigan, andquot;but this will just ratchet it up to the next level.andquot;

Finigan added that he would like to see all committees, organizations and other entities - including the school board and Yurok Tribe - start working together to address community-wide issues.

andquot;We're too small not to work together,andquot; he said.

The special session will be held at the Cultural Center at 5 p.m. on Monday. The group will discuss, among other things, building and planning issues, parks and recreation, community service areas, and economic development. Afterwards the city council will hold their regularly scheduled meeting.
