Steve Chittock

It is the time of the year when one needs to stop and look at all those things for which they should be thankful.

I have been truly blessed to be able to spend so much of my life in the sports world, doing what I enjoy most. First as a player, then as a coach and now as a fan. I am thankful for a wife and family that give me great support, and for health that has allowed me to always be active.

I really want to thank Triplicate Sports Editor Bill Choy for talking me into doing these columns. I never thought of myself as a writer, but with Bill's encouragement I decided to give it a try.

After doing this for just over a year I know that I have gotten way more positive self reward than my readers can ever imagine. Being able to write about members of the Warrior family, both past and present is fun.

To be able to look back at some of our earliest Warriors like Charles Thunen, Ed Frasier, George Yamor, Rocky Peterson or Nick Gargaetas has been special.

Then came the likes of Tex Gatlin, Wally Maciel, Chuck DeAutremont,

Mike Whalen, Jim McGilvary and Jerry Clausen, all of which had a

positive influence on my life. Now peoplelike Debbie and Pablo

Lorenzi, Kirk Burrows, Lewis Nova, Blaine Lopez, Meagan Curtis or

Jackie Heuberger to mention just a few, are fun to follow as they work

with our youth.

I am thankful that after spending 19 years coaching in the Southern

California desert, I was given the opportunity to come home to Del

Norte High School to coach at the school that means so much to me.

I am thankful to the many new friends I have made since returning andndash; coaches, fans and players.

I look forward to being able to write about the many members of the

Warrior family still on my to do list. It seems that my list keeps

getting longer. This is just proof of what a special place Del Norte

County really is.

Dick Trone writes on his reflections and the history of Del Norte High

Warrior sports. Trone, who played football for the Warriors, had an

illustrious career on the gridiron at Humboldt State University. Trone

was head football coach at Del Norte High for a number of years before
