Authorities released more details Tuesday about a Saturday stabbing at a party that left one man hospitalized and the other in jail.

A Crescent City man was stabbed early Saturday, and "later that day the suspect came to the Sheriff's Office and he was arrested there," said sheriff's Commander Tim Athey.

Jonathan James Herrera, 22, of Crescent City was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

"It looks like the victim was arguing with the suspect at a party," said Athey.

He said David James Rhodes Jr., 23, of Crescent City and Herrera were

at a house party at 2:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of Amador Street when

the two began to verbally argue.

Authorities have not determined what started the fight.

"Witnesses said they started pushing each other and eventually

fighting," Athey said. "The next thing he knew, he was stabbed in the

side and the suspect took off running," Athey said about Rhodes Jr.

Athey said the stabbing occurred in the home where the party was held,

instead of while the two men were walking nearby, as reported over the

Rhodes Jr. was driven to Sutter Coast Hospital, where his condition was unavailable Tuesday afternoon.

Herrera was in custody Tuesday afternoon at the Del Norte County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
