'Monologues' continues Saturday

A readers' theater production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" will be performed this Saturday and next at different locations.

This Saturday's performance will be held at the Lucky 7 Casino's Tolowa Event Center in Smith River, and the one on April 14 will be held in the community room at Elk Valley Rancheria. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for both locations, and the shows start at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 each and are available at Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City, Main Street Fashion in Brookings and at the door. Proceeds benefit North Coast Rape Crisis Team, Six Rivers Planned Parenthood, Inter-Tribal Council of California Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program, and Smith River Rancheria Community and Family Services.

Harbor Gallery activities

Crescent Harbor Gallery's artist of the month for April is Brookings

artist Buzz Stewart. Stewart went to art school and then worked as a

commercial artist in Seattle before moving to Brookings, where he

started a commercial art and sign business.

He is a member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and Pelican Bay

Arts Association, and his paintings are most often of landscapes, birds

and animals. A sampling of his work is currently on display, along with

pieces by other gallery members.

"Creative Mondays" are currently being held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at

the gallery the first, third and fourth Mondays of the month. Varying

workshops will continue to be held on the second Monday of the month.

The demonstration artist for April is Deborah Dawson, who will give a

watercolor demo beginning at noon April 26, preceded by a potluck. For

'Taming of Shrew' opens April 13

Brookings Harbor Community Theater's production of William

Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" will have a gala opening on

Friday, April 13, in the Harbor Performing Arts Center, and will run for

two weekends.

The gala begins at 6:30 with hors d'oeuvres and medieval punch.

Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2

p.m.

Tickets cost $10 for general admission, $9 for seniors, $7 for

students, and are available Wright's Custom Framing, New Wave Video and

Pistol River concert April 14

The Pistol River Concert Association presents Canadian

singer/songwriter James Keelaghan at 8 p.m. April 14 in the Pistol River

Friendship Hall.

Possessed of an insatiable appetite for finding the next unique

story line, Keelaghan forges his pieces with craftsmanship and

monogrammed artistic vision, making him one of the most distinctive and

readily identifiable voices on both the Canadian and international

singer/songwriter scenes.

Tickets are $15 each and are available at The Book Dock in Harbor,

Comedy night April 19

Lucky 7 Casino presents its "Comedy Night" at 8 p.m. on April 19 in

the Club 7 Sports Bar. On that Thursday, the headliner will be Gabriel

Rutledge, a past winner of the prestigious Seattle International Comedy

Competition.

Rutledge has appeared on Comedy Central and Comedy TV. His CD

"Sometimes Laughter Hurts" can be heard on the "Raw Dog" Comedy Channel

on Krauss/XM Satellite Radio. The evening also features comedian Justin

Haynes. Attendees must be 21 or older, and there is no cover charge.

Exhibit up at courthouse

The new Art in Public Places exhibit in the Del Norte County

Courthouse is a solo show of paintings by Crescent City artist Pauline

Homes.

Her grouping of colorful, varied works in acrylic is titled

"California Coast Beauty." Holmes is also the new president of the Coast

Redwoods Art Association.
