Collision with truck occurs near Gasquet

A man from Selma, Ore., died in a motorcycle collision east of Gasquet on Sunday morning.

Robert Astleford, 65, was riding his 1995 Harley Davidson south on U.S. Highway 199 near milemarker 27 when he crossed into the northbound lane after navigating a curve and was struck by a 1998 Dodge truck, according to a statement by the California Highway Patrol.

Astleford hit the side of the truck then the front of a trailer it

was towing before being thrown to the ground as his motorcycle landed on

him, causing major injuries, the statement read.

Randy Weathers, 56, of Red Bluff, stopped his truck in the highway to

provide assistance to Astleford. Weathers was not injured.

Astleford, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene, CHP said.
