Reductions in operating hours for Del Norte County transfer stations will be discussed at today's meeting of the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority board.

The meeting, at 3:30 p.m. in the Flynn Center, will also review one of the authority's four ordinances, as part of an ongoing examination of every aspect of the authority since the Crescent City Council and Del Norte County Board of Supervisors replaced the authority's board around the beginning of this year.

Under inspection today is "the solid waste and recycling responsibility ordinance" passed in 2008 to reduce blight caused by trash build-up on private property and to cut down on illegal dumping.

Included in this ordinance, is the requirement for landlords to provide trash and recycling collection services to tenants, which has been scrutinized by the Del Norte Solid Waste Task Force.

The operating hours cutback being considered for the transfer stations would close them on Sundays and at 4 p.m. for every day they are open. The cutback would save the authority about $12,000 a year.
