Campuses close for bomb threat at college

Triplicate Staff

Students and faculty at College of the Redwoods and Del Norte High School were evacuated for about an hour after an unidentified caller made a bomb threat Monday, although classes at the high school were already over for the day.

Officers were called to CR at about 3:50 p.m. and swept through the campus but did not find an explosive device, said Del Norte County sheriff's Commander Bill Steven. The evacuation order was lifted at about 5 p.m., he said.

Steven said a host of agencies responded, including the Sheriff's Office, the Crescent City police and fire departments and the California Highway Patrol.

Although classes weren't in session, high school students were participating in after-school activities, Steven said.
