Children take advantage of free art class to prepare for show

Eight budding artists got a jump Saturday on the upcoming Wild Rivers Coast Food Days Art Show set for Oct. 20-25 at the fairgrounds Arts and Crafts Building.

The show for artists ages 2andndash;18 calls upon them to produce images of their favorite fruits or vegetables in pencils or pastels, Play Dough or papier mache, crayons or creative photography.

On Saturday, eight kids took advantage of a free art class taught by Laura Wiens at High Ground Gallery, 140-A Marine Way, in Crescent City Harbor.

They included Sam Seymour, 12; Mikaila Marlin, 9; Jazaleigh Gerarden, 9; Jaylon Gerarden, 7; Seth Peterson, 10; Zeb Carter, 13; Raimie Carter, 9; and Mason Altman, 10.

Art show participants are asked to bring their artwork to the Del Norte Triplicate at 3rd and H downtown from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday of this week, or drop it off at the Crescent City Farmers Market at the fairgrounds on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Crescent Harbor Art Gallery folks will hang the art in the Arts and Crafts Building.

andbull; "Meatless Monday Cook-off" featuring chefs Justin Hall from Sutter Coast Hospital, Charlie Fore from Porcini restaurant and Triplicate columnist Anne Boulley from Brookings, 5-8 p.m. Includes free samples for tasting and judging of People's Choice award. Music by Jon Parmentier. Rene Shanle Hutzell is emcee.

andbull; Teen Dinner Party with Halloween theme, 5-9 p.m. Free pasta, green salad, garlic bread and chocolate fountain with fresh fruits. Open to all teens ages 14-20. Live music by Joint Chiefs. Halloween costume contest and pumpkin carving.
